Our client is seeking a dedicated and organised apprentice to join our Childcare Law Department, supporting two full-time solicitors with diary management, client communication, case file maintenance, and general administration. This role provides full on-the-job training, making it the perfect first step for someone looking to build a career in the legal sector.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of administrative duties and would suit someone who prides themselves with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate would be able to work in an efficient and organised manner and have excellent IT and communication skills.

Responsibilities for an apprentice

  • Diary Management & Scheduling – Assist in managing the solicitors’ diaries, scheduling client meetings, court dates, and case reviews.
  • Ensure all appointments are accurately recorded and do not conflict with other commitments.
  • Client & Professional Communication – Act as a first point of contact for clients, handling phone calls and emails professionally.
  • Liaise with solicitors, court staff, social workers, and other legal professionals to coordinate case progress and gather relevant information.
  • Case File Management – Maintain and update case files on our Case Management System, ensuring all legal documents, client correspondence, and case notes are accurately recorded, stored, and easily accessible.
  • Email & Document Handling – Assist in drafting and formatting legal correspondence, preparing case summaries, and ensuring all documentation meets professional standards. Monitor and manage solicitors’ inboxes, flagging urgent matters and responding to routine queries.
  • Court & Meeting Preparation – Support solicitors in preparing case files for hearings, trials, and meetings, ensuring all necessary documentation is compiled and ready ahead of deadlines.
  • Legal Research & Data Entry – Conduct basic legal research, compile reports, and assist in gathering supporting information for cases. Enter and maintain accurate client data in the system, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
  • Administrative Support – Handle general administrative duties, including filing, photocopying, scanning, and printing legal documents. Assist in managing office supplies and ensuring the efficient running of the legal department.
  • Learning & Development – Take part in ongoing training to develop knowledge of legal procedures, terminology, and administrative best practices within a professional law firm.

 

Skills / Experience

  • Excellent customer service skills including telephone and face to face etiquette
  • Excellent keyboard skills including accuracy and speed of at least 65wpm
  • Friendly and approachable with a caring nature to make a difference
  • Organised systematic approach to work
  • Good organisation abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to demonstrate use of initiative

Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSEs (grade A-C) in English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
